All the signs point to a bit of payback at the Helsinki Olympic stadium at first, but then its Πάρτι, πάρτι, πάρτι at Crystal Show Club
The Η Γαλανόλευκη are Returning for “Collateral Revenge” (part 2)
As the Greek blue and white touches down in Helsinki for the Nations League match against Finland’s blue and white on January 17, 2024, the Finnish fans know this isn’t just another game—it’s a long-awaited chance for some payback. The team that gave birth to democracy, took care of the persian wars in 449 BCE and the Euros ion 2004 CE looks like they are defintely back on form when it comes to football. And no, this game isn’t about footballing pride alone; as there very well might be some “unsettled business” dating back to the Greek bailout days in 2009, when Finland made Greek civil servants sweat over every last euro.
We are betting that Zorba has not forgetten the story about the guarantees
Yes, it’s hard to forget that back in the early 2010s, Finland became the only EU country that demanded collateral guarantees before agreeing to lend a hand to the struggling Greek economy. Not our finest moment.
“Solidarity?” asked Finland, chuckling while asking Greece to deposit assets as an insurance policy. And so began the long, bureaucratic Sirtaki where Finnnish politicians dragged out the affair, for mostly what appeared to be simply domestic political theatre, but sparking indignation in Athens as Greek officials pulled countless all-nighters to satisfy the northern demands. And as could be expected, in the end, the hard fpought “collateral” ended up being largely symbolic—but oh, not without a cost to Greek pride! The paperwork alone could have filled every Parthenon pillar.
And now, years later, here we are, with the Greeks returning to Finland, top of the table with their bellies full of Souvlaki.
In all fairness, on the Sunday of the 17th we expect the focus to be solely on football. And while we must admit the Hellenic warrios have been exceptionally strong in this campaign, the hosts are noyt known to give up without a fight.
Its our time to give guarantees: We guarantee the best after party is at Crystal Show Club
The only sure thing you can bet on is that the winning philosophy on a likely freezing Sunday night is going to be Epicureanistic with a touch of Hedonism. Thats right, you are invited to melt your buttcheeks after the game at the best strip club in Helsinki. We may be rooting for an upset by the hosts but our beautiful and talented international dancers are less biased, and prefer to simply get naked on stage as early as 21.00. Yes, it will be such a cavalcade of long legs and full figures that you will feel lost in the siren’s song and forget what the final score might have been.
We leave you with a classic clip on Greek football many of you will remeber
