The festival of light running from Sunday 6 January to January 10th has been officially ongoing since 2012. Lux Helsinki is run by the city of Helsinki and simply a great way to experience Helsinki on a cold and dark winter night, is to follow the light. the festival is a collection of events, installations and different kinds of activities. The event website also boasts that parking and toilets have also been made available. Not sure if we want to go as far as recommeding a visit to a portable toilets at -20C, but just so you know, proper logistics exist around this event.
A wide range of Street Food is also available in the Senate Square and at Annankatu. A total of 19 restaurants and cafes near the festival are offering special items to festival goers.
The best way really to experience everything is with a simple casual stroll around the center with possibly a smartphone and your selfie stick.
