Happening in August: Helsinki City Marathon
In Helsinki with nothing planned for August 13th? Want a holiday from the kids? Looking to spend a few hrs surrounded by adults? Like an international crowd?
If you answered yes to all four questions you could say we have the perfect day planned to propose for you. Sign up for the Helsinki City Marathon here, (the official website, its only 96€ PLEASE NOTE: link removed). The classic yearly event is a popular way to see the city, one of the top rated tours in fact, as this year you will be strolling along side participants from 65 different countries. The minimum age requirement is a healthy 18 so no annoying toddlers about disturbing your sightseeing. Typical tours last from 2,5 hrs anywhere up to 6 or even 10 hours. Since the start is around 3 pm, we recommend you aim for a time thats just around 5 hrs, so that you will be able to make it back to the club just after we open..
In all seriousness, Helsinki City Marathon is a great event that al of us in Helsinki are very proud of. Its has been ran in Helsinki since 1980 and we are confident it will keep going for year to come. Its actually one of the few City Marathons you can sign up to until the very day of the start. So if you do notice on the morningof the 13th that you have 6 hrs free on your calendar (unless you had a wild night at the club) you are more than welcome to join in on the fun.
The starting line is near the Paavo Nurmi statue by the Olympic Stadium and the race will finish at the Sonera Stadium just down the road. In between you still need to run the 42+km’s though. You can expect a lovely scenic route, that will take you west and then back down town.
Post run fun
To finish off the day, even trip advisors recommend you head to the showers, then immediately hit an ATM to get some of that currency universally appreciated by strippers (cash). Take a taxi or walk on down to Crystal Show Club to mingle and tell our girls about your training plan and race day nutrition.
Please note Cystal Show Club is not affiliated with the official organisers of the event and we are simply offering this information for the benefit of our customers, tourists visiting Helsinki and the readers of this blog.
